I hate writing negative reviews, but I'm afraid I felt compelled because this was just so over the top that I nearly laughed. Nearly. I'm all for things being unrealistic - when I read books like this it is for entertainment only, so it doesn't have to be realistic, but this was so far out there: *everyone* and their entire family group is wealthy beyond imagination. And the characters are all so unbelievable. From Callum, who was filthy rich, gorgeous, Mr. Amazing, could not stop talking about how this woman belongs to him, etc. (felt more like deranged stalker than sweet guy who was love-sick) To the "heroin" who goes from virgin/man-hater to totally giving herself to this guy on the first kiss - and all while she is convinced it's just a "fling". From that point on the constant sex that was detailed to leave nothing to the imagination just felt ridiculous. There is such a thing as too much - and it's generally not a good thing. That would be this book, imho.Tags : Amazon.com: What a Westmoreland Wants (The Westmorelands) (9780373730483): Brenda Jackson: Books,Brenda Jackson,What a Westmoreland Wants (The Westmorelands),Silhouette Desire,0373730489,Romance - African American,Love stories.,10011504,1153749,20100901,2035,706848,AFRICAN AMERICAN NOVEL AND SHORT STORY,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,FICTION Romance African American,FICTION Romance Contemporary,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,Love stories,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,Romance - Contemporary,RomanceGeneral,Romance;Contemporary,United States
What a Westmoreland Wants The Westmorelands Brenda Jackson Books Reviews
1. Mega-rich boy from Australia meets rich girl of his dreams--who happens to live in America.
2. Mega-rich boy stays in America for THREE years JUST so he can be near the girl he loves (who has NO idea he feels this way.) Really? Who does this--but if you're that rich...
3. Mega-rich boy hires girl under pretense of designing his mansion, but it's really so he can "properly court" her. (Oh yeah, she happens to be a virgin.)
4. These two are together a whopping 48 hours before they sleep together, even though she says time and time again earlier in the novel how she's happy she's a virgin. Apparently she really doesn't need to be courted...
5. Rich girl can't imagine mega-rich boy could possibly love her, so she flees for home.
6. Mega-rich boy follows her home, and they get engaged, of course to live happily ever after--who wouldn't, with all his money?
There are some steamy love scenes, but the lack of a good plot just wasn't worth it. Oh, and how he tells her time and time again how she can have anything she wants? Really, it was a bit sickening...
This is the first book I have read by this author and in this series. I really enjoyed it and honestly don't understand the 1 and 2 star reviews that it received. Of course, everyone is different on what they want from a romance book.
Callum is the hot wealthy Aussie who has waited for his soul mate (although she doesn't know it) for 3 years, Gemma. The plot intirgued me since he basically buys a mansion in Australia and asks her to handle the entire interior design for it but that involves that they travel together and stay there for 6 weeks. His plan is to get her away from her family, life and turf so he can finally show her that they should be together. What is not romanctic about that? Callum is sexy, hot, thoughtful...it's all about her. Again, I ask...who wouldn't like that? haha
Of course, his plot works but you do have a bit of drama (every good romance should in my opinion!) and you do get a happy ending.
So, if you like a romance story between a strong alpha, hot, wealthy man and an independent, strong woman, with some hot scenes, then you will like this book. Is it very realistic? Hmmm...probably not but isn't that why we all read romance novels?!??
My last thought is that while this book can be read independently, I am wondering if I would have enjoyed it more had I already read the previous books in the series. There are some references to the other characters' stories that made me think it would have enhanced my reading experience but again, I still enjoyed this.
Not sure why wondered how many stars I would give this since it already had 287 reviews but here goes. I guess I am in the middle. The rich Aussie businessman falling for a gal 10 years his jr. and then waiting 3 years for her to grow up didn't bother me. I could see that. He does seem obsessed, in his head, over her but never really does anything to indicate he is creepy. There are females doing some pretty creepy stuff IN THEIR HEADS and we think it is funny. We do spend a lot of time in his head sharing his thoughts with him. But anyway. We have a female, born into a big rich family and the baby so she is a bit on the spoiled side, etc. She is now grown, 24 I think, running her own business and on her own. Now here is where it got stupid to me. Growing up she sees females with BROKEN HEARTS because her brothers are all love 'em and leave 'em types. However, this is usually after one or two dates. The females see rich, big hunky guys and think it is love because they have sex with them after a bar pick up. Obviously she is not old enough at the time to see the whole picture.
Because of hearing the BROKEN HEARTS on the phone she deems all men and relationships in the BAD category and she wants no part of it. So she dates rarely, and definitely does not even come close to having sex with a guy at all. So there is a 24 year old virgin at large. So the Aussie is getting an innocent even tho he doesn't know this until he kisses her for the first time and can tell she has no experience. However, first kiss in his car, and he is way past 3rd base. We are talking in panties and orgasm on her part. Yep, she switched really quick. She decides to have a good time while in Australia since she will soon be going home and leaving all this behind and having a great memory.
He on the hand is trying to woo her and win her and convince her to stay in Australia with him. The story was interesting enough. I found her a bit immature and naïve in her thinking for someone with her background, etc. But the story was entertaining and sexy and entertaining enough. I would recommend it if you like to read romance and are looking for something a little different in the billionaire line.
